Peaches's ceramics are hand-produce by partners Julia Sherman and Thomas Sprott outside of Portland, Oregon. Peaches has gained instant popularity due to their bright, modern designs, impeccable quality, and the functionality of their pieces.
Peaches incorporates the complex decorative craft of nerikomi – in which colored clay patterns are stacked then sliced through a cross-section to reveal a pattern – into their intensive slip casting process. Porcelain greenware is cast and then fired to cone, finished on the wheel, and then hand-glazed. Though Sherman and her partner started out small handcrafting tumblers, mugs and planters, they have since branched out to design and fabricate a line of vases, dinnerware, and small production, custom furniture.
Peaches recently relocated to a large, long-empty dairy building, and have launched a Kickstarter to raise money for a ceramics press to keep up with customer demand and launch their forthcoming dinnerware line. By expanding their business, Jules hopes to offer employment and job opportunities for the local community, while also broadening Peaches’ artistic scope.
Of their community mission, Peaches writes: “Remember, small Business takes a community of supporters to work. Invest in art and craft. Invest in your LOCAL economy. Invest in your community. Invest in the world you hope to live in.”
