Though first discovered in 1916 in the mountains of New Guinea, this Alocasia variety is fairly new to the houseplant market. Alocasia wentii, also known as “Went’s Hardy Elephant Ear”, proves true to its nickname when it comes to its fairly straightforward tropical plant care requirements and easy-going nature in comparison to some other Alocasias. Its metallic foliage and hints of both green and purple lend a moody vibe to this ruffled cutie.
Light: Like other Alocasia, the wentii thrives in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, as the intense rays can burn their tender leaves. Curling and discoloration of the leaves is a possible sign that your plant is getting too much direct sun.
Water: Keep soil moist, but never soggy soil. Water once the soil dries about two inches down in the pot. A chunky soil mixture with good aeration is key for a happy plant.
Humidity: Moderate to high humidity is best for this variety. We recommend adding a humidifier to your plant care routine or placing it on a pebble tray to help provide humidity if your space is dry.
This plant is poisonous to pets if ingested.
