Nicknamed the “Paperplant Spiderweb” the Fatsia Japonica is a unique, evergreen specimen noted for its sharply lobed, fingerlike foliage and unique variegation. In the home, these bushy lil’ beauties can grow up to six feet tall, with leaves spanning up to a food wide at maturity. Provide with adequate light and rotate regularly to maintain even growth and variegation!
Light: Fatsia thrive in a bright, warm spot, though hot direct light should be avoided. Brighter sun will contribute to more stable variegation. While hardy, make sure that this plant is not placed in a drafty space or a room with dramatic temperature changes, as this can cause defoliation.
Water: This plant prefers soil that stays evenly moist, but never soggy. Water only when the soil is dry at least 3” to halfway down in the container, and plant in a well draining potting soil. The Japonica will wilt dramatically when thirsty, so don’t lose hope if it appears completely deflated when you miss a watering! Give it a good soak and it will likely pop back!
Humidity: Moderate to high humidity is preferable for this plant to thrive. We recommend running a humidifier if your space is especially dry.
This plant is safe for pets.
