Philodendron Melanochrysum, also known as the black-gold Philodendron, is often mistaken for the similarly velvety Philodendron Micans in their juvenile state, but the two plants could not be more different. This rare Philodendron is a climbing vine that has the potential to grow up to five feet tall when grown indoors. The aesthetically pleasing, moody leaves of this Philodendron can extend to the impressive size of two feet long upon maturity if allowed to thrive.

Re-pot yearly, or when the plant is showing early signs of outgrowing its container, fertilize regularly during growing season with a well-balanced fertilizer, and provide a habitat that mimics its native warm, humid environment, and you will be rewarded with an indoor giant.

Light: Bright, indirect sunlight is ideal for Philodendron Melanochrysum. Brighter sun will result in more prolific leaf growth, but avoid hot, direct sun as too much sun exposure can result in leaf discoloration.

Water: Allow the soil to dry at least two to three inches down in the container between waterings. You want to keep the slightly moist, but never soggy, and avoid any prospect of overwatering. The shallow roots of the Melanochrysum favor a well-draining, but slightly moist medium such as sphagnum moss in order to maintain proper aeration.

Humidity: Moderate humidity is best for Philodendron growth. We suggest adding a humidifier to your plant care routine if the air in your space is dry.
