Star cactus is an endangered species native to the lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas in the United States, the states of Nuevo León and Tamaulipas in Mexico, to the east of the Sierra Madre Oriental mountain range. This cactus can reach up to a height of 6-12 inches and is relatively easy to grow. This cactus blooms in the mid-summer season and produces pale yellow flowers with orange-red centers, and only lasts for a relatively short period.

Light: Bright direct light is best for these, at least six hours of the direct sun is ideal. If grown indoors, place by a bright window. It can be grown outdoors in frost-free climates and a hardiness zone of 9a to 11b.

Water: Make sure your plant is in a very well draining soil. Allow your plant to dry out completely in between watering. These do best with under-watering rather than over-watering.

If ingested, poisonous to people and pets.
