Perhaps one of the most alien-esque plants available commercially, Drosera binata is a fascinating variety of carnivorous plant. This plant is native to sandy marshes of southern Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand. Also called "sundews", Drosera catch small insects by secreting a sticky dew from the red filaments on their leaves which traps their prey. A notable feature of all D. binata variety is their tendency to enter dormancy in the winter, but not to worry, once temperature and light rise again they will come right back.
Light: D. binata thrives in very bright, to bright, indirect light. Can be grown in either natural or artificial light conditions.
Water: Because these plants are native to marshes, they must be kept moist at all times. Tap water can be too harsh for their delicate tentacles, so we recommend keeping your Drosera in a tray of about half an inch of distilled or rain water.
Humidity: If your environment is particularly dry, we recommend introducing a humidifier.
If ingested, poisonous to pets.
